Workforce Development Summit
The future of the maritime workforce: an important issue facing ports today is a shrinking workforce. Port jobs in many cases are highly skilled and require specific technical training. There is a challenge filling those jobs with employees that have the proper training. In addition, as port staff and employees move on to retirement there is a need for succession planning.
Come hear from educators, HR professionals, colleges, universities and ports about the efforts taking place to address these issues.
Day 3 of the program Thursday, June 27 will be lead by TransPORTS, a national industry intermediary chosen by the U.S. Department of Labor to expand registered apprenticeship in ports and the multi-modal transportation, distribution logistics industry nationwide. The Multimodal Transportation, Distribution and Logistics (TDL) Industry Apprenticeship Accelerator meeting will be held to convene business leaders in an environment that promotes creation of effective, customized, employer-driven workforce development programs using the proven method of registered apprenticeship.
